This is my first Eddie Cantor movie and I am IN LOVE!! What a DRAMATIC, ridiculous movie. This movie had more costume changes than Imelda Marcos had shoes!!
It was full of wistful glances, tremolo voices, eye rolling and melodramatic, dislocated movements. It...was...so...full...of....Love...for you...no for you....no....for YOU!
Watch it! Be amazed! Laugh at it's theatrics and DRAMA! Enjoy the pure essence of 1930's technicolor film making...at...it's .....FINEST!!

The Last Time I Saw Paris 1955

If you want to cry tonight watch "The Last Time I Saw Paris" This is a tragic story, but a real story. One that might even speak to you personally. For some unfortunately literally for others only in a parabolic way.
The honesty of emotion; the love of life and recklessness, the love of money, and the loss of everything brings these characters absolutely to their knees. Only for some, it is too late to change.
I am reminded of the Nephites in 3 Nephi in The Book of Mormon. When they forgot God, they lost EVERYTHING. When they sought him again, old things were restored but tragedy does leave scars.
I love the portrayal of these human failings in this movie. It was a moving experience to watch it.

His Girl Friday 1940
"Cary Grant does it again!" I am sure that is what the line read on this review. It sure is what I am putting on mine. Man! How I love Cary Grant.
He is one smooth talking, double crosser in this movie. In a matter of a day he reunites with his Ex Wife (only to find that she is getting married 'tomorrow'), gets her fiance arrested 3 times, and convinces her to....well. I don't want to spoil it for you. ;)
If you like political, fast talkin', comedies then you will love this movie! What a doosy!

Nicholas Nickleby 2002
"Nicholas Nickleby" is a charming movie. Nicholas is the kind of man all mothers should hope their boys to grow up like. I do!
So many familiar faces are in this movie. It is amazing to see such talent all on one set. It's funny how you can find favorites in so many movies and yet you NEVER hear anything about them. I for one found many 'favorites' in this enchanting movie.
The movie is about a young man who needs to seek out employment for himself after the death of his father. He is now responsible for the care of his sister and mother. Nicholas has tragic and fantastic challenges along the way... I especially loved the "Infant Phenomenon"!!
This really is a wonderful, heartwarming movie that I can watch again and again. It has such a perfect ending...so heartfelt...so true. Watch this movie and you won't be disappointed.
**Anne Hathaway plays a short but important role in this 2002 film.

The Bishops Wife 1947
What a wonderful story this is.
So often we forget what is most important in life. We find what we think is most important overshadowing the things that have any real value to us.
This movie shows us how to put what is important first; to remember that our families and the Lord are the only things of value to us and the only thing that really matters.
I would recommend this movie to you when you are feeling your life slipping out of your control. It will help you gain much needed perspective.

Wonder Man 1954
Redemption, thy name is "Wonder Man"!! Wow! What a killer great movie. That really brought the love back for me.
Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen, and Virginia Mayo AGAIN play in this movie. I am surprised at finding so many of the same cast in these movies. In this movie, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen play love opposites as well as in "White Christmas" and "The Kid From Brooklyn". Virginia Mayo plays Danny Kaye's Sister in "The Kid From Brooklyn" and in this movie plays his love (as well as Vera-Ellen)
Confused yet? "A chalice in the palace" anyone? Hahaha.
Danny Kaye plays 2 roles in this movie. He is a twin. The main 'twin' is a book worm named Edwin who is in the middle of a writing project and falling for the librarian (Virginia Mayo) while the other 'twin' is a song and dance man named Buzzy at the Pelican Club and engaged to his co-star (Vera-Ellen).
Buzzy finds himself at he wrong end of a pistol and as a ghost finds his brother, Edwin to help him catch the bad guys!
It is hilarious, engaging, and full of surprises.
I LOVED the "Bali Boogie"!!! Especially the booty shake to the classical music (from Fantasia??)
Another thing to mention is that the "Goldwyn Girls" are cast in this movie as well as "The Kid From Brooklyn". I wonder if they are also in "White Christmas"??
Oh...and notice what is ALWAYS on Danny Kaye's pinky in these 2 movies. I wonder about its significance?

The Kid From Brooklyn 1946
...just started it. It features one of my faves....Danny Kaye

Ok...I will start out by saying...
I was so disappointed in this movie!
I LOVE Danny Kaye and up until this point I have LOVED everything that he has done. But this movie did not make my list.
Let me recap why...
In the beginning of the movie all was well. Things were going along at a 'cute' pace. But I did feel that things were a little boring. I enjoyed the tap dancing of Vera-Ellen (The YOUNGER 'sister' from White Christmas), of course, but the rest was rather dull.
I don't know if it was because I was so tired coming into this movie or what, but I really didn't enjoy too much of this movie.
When Danny Kaye FINALLY had one of his award winning song and dance numbers it was overshadowed by the distaste I felt for his character. I wasn't able to enjoy his fast feet, clean whit and lightening fast tongue because I was so disappointed by the motives of his character.
It ended cute, somewhat abruptly, but cute. It was an alright movie overall and I would probably still recommend it...but it certainly doesn't top my list of "Movies That I Love To Love"
More on it tomorrow...hopefully!

Ball of Fire 1941
Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck just captured my heart for the last hour and 51 min. What a classic, unexpected, triumph of a movie.
Gary Cooper stole the show with his naive and pure outlook on life and work. He was absolutely a breath of fresh air.
I enjoyed this film immensely. I especially liked the end scene with the Chinese Torture in the garbage truck!!
The story is about 8 scholarly gentlemen who are 9 years into an encyclopedia writing project. Each one an expert in his own field. Each one a bachelor minus one who is a widower for the last 20+ years. Living together in an estate, being cared for by a germ conscientious old maid, they encounter a moll of the mob who changes their lives forever!
Trust me on this one. If you like a good laugh, scholars, gangsters and love you will surely love this movie just as much as I did.
